ROLE: Laboratory & Data Support Officer

Full-time | On-site | 12-month contract | Immediate start

POSITION OVERVIEW

The European Biomedical Research Institute of Salerno (EBRIS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory & Data Support Officer to join an international biomedical research initiative. The successful candidate will be seconded to work full-time on-site at the University of Galway, Ireland, while holding an employment contract with EBRIS under Italian law.

This is a hands-on operational role sitting at the interface of laboratory sample management and clinical data coordination. You will be responsible for processing and tracking biological samples collected as part of an ongoing clinical study, and for entering associated data into a secure electronic database – all in close collaboration with a remote research coordination team based in Italy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, process, aliquot, label, and store biological samples (including stool, blood, and urine) in compliance with established standard opera ng procedures
  • Maintain organised freezer storage at -80°C and ensure full sample traceability at all times
  • Prepare and dispatch sample shipments on dry ice to partner sites, adhering to biosafety and transport regulations
  • Enter clinical and sample-related data accurately into REDCap, a secure web-based electronic data capture system (full training provided)
  • Liaise daily with the remote coordination team in Italy via email and video call to ensure sample tracking and data entry remain aligned with project milestones
  • Maintain meticulous documentation and uphold laboratory safety and data quality standards throughout

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, nursing, or a related field –or equivalent hands-on working experience
  • A minimum of one year of practical laboratory experience in an academic or clinical setting, preferably involving human biospecimens
  • Strong computer literacy, including confident use of spreadsheets, databases, and email
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines in a structured environment
  • Willingness to learn new software tools and follow detailed standard operating

DESIRABLE (NOT ESSENTIAL)

  • Prior experience with REDCap or other electronic data capture platforms
  • Familiarity with GDPR principles as they apply to pseudonymised research data
  • Previous experience in a biobank, biorepository, or clinical research setting

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

This is a full-time, on-site position hosted at the University of Galway, Ireland. Remote or hybrid working is not available for this role. The employment contract will be issued by EBRIS (Italian legal entity); candidates should be eligible to work in Ireland and comfortable with a secondment arrangement.
